This project delivered a custom transformer package for an active mining operation in Australia, where strict environmental protection rules and rugged site operating conditions set high technical barriers for power distribution equipment.
The client required five distribution transformers plus one earthing transformer, with the main unit rated at OPMI 2500kVA, 11kV / 415V. Instead of conventional mineral oil, the client selected FR3 high-fire-point vegetable dielectric fluid to meet Australia’s stringent environmental & fire safety requirements.
Core Project Requirements
Dielectric Fluid: FR3 high flash-point vegetable oil. Biodegradable, low toxicity, greatly reduces fire hazard and soil contamination risk — critical for Australian mine environmental compliance.
Transformer Configuration: 5 × distribution transformers + 1 × earthing transformer. Main transformer: OPMI 2500kVA, 11kV / 415V, mining & industrial duty.
Mechanical Design: Reinforced cooling system as required by Australian standards, to handle high ambient temperature and continuous heavy-load mining operation.
Containment & Safety: Integral oil containment sump (oil pit / bund) to contain fluid leakage, preventing soil and groundwater pollution, mandatory for Australian mine sites.
Earthing transformer: Dedicated earthing transformer included for proper neutral earthing, stabilising 11kV network fault conditions on the mine power system.

We engineered the full transformer package tailored to Australian mining specifications:
- Main OPMI 2500kVA 11kV/415V distribution transformers filled with FR3 vegetable oil. FR3’s biodegradable properties satisfy Australia’s strict environmental controls, while its high fire point minimises fire risk in remote mine sites.
- Cooling structure reinforced to meet Australian thermal requirements, ensuring stable heat dissipation under continuous heavy mining cyclic loads and high ambient temperatures.
