On-site Installation of Oil-Immersed Transformers for South African Utility Project

In mid-June 2026, Tengyi successfully completed the initial delivery phase for a major South African grid upgrade project with the on-site installation of two high-performance oil-immersed transformers. As part of a 7-9 unit utility project, these first two Tengyi units serve as technical benchmarks, specifically engineered for the region’s stringent thermal and high-load standards. Their successful commissioning provides the critical validation needed to launch the rolling supply plan for Tengyi’s remaining 5-7 units in the project pipeline.

Customized Logistics and Sea Freight Reinforcement

Given the significant weight of the transformers and the long-distance maritime transit, we provided our client with a customized loading and reinforcement plan. Inside the container, heavy-duty timber blocking was used for base support, combined with high-strength orange lashing straps for multi-point cross-tensioning of the main body and the oil conservator tank. This reinforcement strategy effectively prevented internal core displacement and protected the external radiator banks from damage during sea and local land transport, ensuring the equipment arrived in factory-perfect condition.

Precision Lifting

At the client’s designated substation, the installation area was constrained by existing buildings and perimeter walls. We assisted our client in developing a detailed lifting procedure, utilizing a heavy-duty truck crane for over-site hoisting. By employing the specialized lifting lugs on top of the transformers, the onsite team achieved precise alignment with the concrete foundations. Throughout the process, all accessories, including the terminal boxes and oil conservator, remained stable, ensuring a successful and accurate final installation.

Sustainable Supply

These oil-immersed transformers feature optimized radiator structures and a fully sealed design tailored to withstand South Africa’s local ambient temperatures and humidity. To date, all technical parameters of the first two units have successfully passed on-site inspections. Based on the client’s satisfaction with our product quality and delivery performance, discussions for the remaining 5 to 7 units have already commenced. We remain committed to aligning with our client’s project timeline to ensure the phased delivery and reliable operation of all subsequent equipment.
