Tengyi recently launched a major supply project of 33kV Distribution Transformers for the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) grid upgrade. In collaboration with a prominent local installation firm, we are committed to supplying a total of 1,600+ high-performance distribution transformers. Accordingly, the first batch of 135 units has successfully passed factory inspections and is now in transit. These units were specifically engineered to withstand Kenya’s challenging climate and meet KPLC’s stringent technical benchmarks.
Technical Solutions: Optimized for 33kV High-Voltage Grids
To address the regional 33kV distribution requirements, we provided a versatile portfolio of 25kVA and 50kVA units. The 50kVA series, specifically engineered for this project, features the following specifications:
- Superior Insulation Safety: With a primary voltage of 33kV, these units feature a 170kV Lightning Impulse Level (BIL) and 70kV Power Frequency Withstand. This reinforced insulation ensures long-term grid stability in high-altitude and lightning-prone regions across Africa.
- Premium Material Options: Based on the specific technical requirements of different project segments, we provided both high-performance copper winding and cost-effective aluminum winding options. The copper units offer superior thermal stability and lower operational losses (No-load loss as low as 160W).
- Standards & Accessories: Fully compliant with the IEC 60076 series. Utilizing the Dyn11 vector group to suppress harmonics, the transformers are equipped with utility-standard accessories, including Oil Temperature Indicators (OTI), pressure relief devices, and conservator tanks.

To manage the total commitment of 1,600+ units effectively, Tengyi has established a robust sequential delivery mechanism. For this initial 135-unit shipment, we implemented specialized export protocols to address the challenges of maritime and inland transit:
- Risk Mitigation: Units were sealed in moisture-proof film and enclosed in heavy-duty export crates with professional container anchoring. This prevents oxidation from salt air and eliminates risks such as bushing breakage or internal core displacement caused by rough transit conditions.
- Efficient Logistics: All packaging materials are ISPM 15 compliant, ensuring seamless customs clearance at the Port of Mombasa and timely arrival at the installation sites.
